Claire Goose talks about her ideas for using Your Year in a Nutshell.

Recording Your Wishes in a Nutshell should not be seen as depressing! And if you're thinking of writing or updating your Will, this is a great time to tackle this information too as well as leaving personal messages.

You may already have made your wishes known to others in the event of illness or death, but for most of us it's hard to bring up such subjects, especially when things are going well and we feel we’ll be around forever.

Bereaved families can disagree strongly about their relatives' wishes; or if someone dies unexpectedly, a partner can feel doubly bereft if they don't find some personal message in their effects.

Here is the opportunity to make your own wishes known, clearly and unequivocally, to help others at such a time - you can even make sure you’ve taken care of the family goldfish!

start recording

By answering our prompt questions, you can state your preferences for healthcare, organ donation, or funeral arrangements - even down to writing a eulogy or specifying favourite music if you wish. You can also leave personal messages, informal bequests and any other relevant information for those who may be dealing with matters without you.

These records sit alongside your legal Will, in fact we suggest you lodge your password details with your solicitor for just that reason.*

Peace of mind for them – and for you. Once you’ve recorded your wishes, just in case, you can then get on with living in the knowledge that you’ve made life just that bit easier for others who might be left behind.

*NB this site is purely to assist those you leave behind know your intentions, it does not carry any weight in law.

Finding my husband's last wishes in his Nutshell was a great comfort when everything else was stressful.

He also left some personal messages for me and the family which have given us some lovely memories.
