'Being forgetful will cost you!' motorists are warned

May 13th 2009

Set yourself a reminder through our FREE service, and receive an email days before your MOT expires, or in time to shop around for best deals on car, home, pet or health insurance.

A new study has warned that a large proportion of cars currently on the UK roads are illegal given that they do not have a valid MOT certificate.

According to the research carried out by the consumer website uSwitch, about two-thirds of Britons have, at some point, taken a car onto the road without a valid MOT, whether knowingly or unknowingly

Refreshingly, rather than attempting to shift the blame onto complicated bureaucracy or stress factors caused by the financial meltdown, 79 per cent of those drivers polled put their hands up and said that sheer absent-mindedness was the main reason they have got behind the wheel of a car lacking an MOT.

Meanwhile, one in ten put their forgetfulness down to switching cars midway through certificates.

As Mark Monteiro, an insurance expert at the website, noted: "Life moves at a pretty fast pace and so it is understandable that many consumers may find themselves losing track of deadlines and commitments."

While this may be perfectly understandable, even the best-intentioned driver could be subject to a £1,000 fine if found driving around illegally.

Facebook file sharing 'not always secure'

March 9th 2009

In the week that the very public social networking site Facebook was hacked five times, it was reported that many users of this and other similar sites don't always realise they need to set their own security settings to keep their files private, and can leave themselves open to potential hacking.

There have also been several reports in the news about someone in the public eye (certain footballers spring to mind) accidentally sharing some private gossip meant for only one person with everyone in their contacts list, or worse, everyone on the internet!

This all goes to reinforce how much safer it is to share files through a system like we have at Your Nutshell.

Members send an invitation by email to each individual they want to share something with. That individual has to register with the site, and then gets to share exactly the files the member has specified and for as long as they have pre-set on a clickable calendar. And if the member wakes up in the middle of the night realising they have changed their mind, they can cancel the access at the click of a button.

It's the safe, secure, private way for friends to share pictures, news and information.

We're certainly not criticising Facebook and the like, they offer a great way to keep in touch quickly and easily; but Your Nutshell is a much more private, individual way to share pictures, news and memories with friends and family, wherever they are in the world.

the internet is 'the new pub'

December 1st 2008

The Guardian today states that ‘This Christmas will be like no other in recent memory’, pointing out that this year will see the first ‘recessionary Christmas' for nearly 20 years. The paper then goes on to consider the role of the internet in this climate. It notes that ‘the recession is encouraging punters to use internet activities as a substitute for that extra visit to a pub or club’. Here at Your Nutshell we don't want anyone to miss out on enjoying themselves this festive season, but we do agree that membership does offer something different and fun to do at home on the PC, and hope that our members continue to enjoy recording their memories, uploading their pictures and sharing their files with others.
