Before I go travelling I store important information
I've always done a lot of travelling, but this is the first time I've done much on my own. So it's nice to have somewhere online to go when I'm feeling a bit lonely and everyone at home's in a different timezone - I can write down all sorts of things about what I've been up to and share it with them and feel I've actually spoken to them.
Saves a fortune in phone bills too that way!
Before I set off I scanned my travel documents and stored them in my nutshell, rather than leaving copies with my folks and hoping a) they wouldn't lose them and b) if I needed a copy they'd know what to do. This way if a bag goes walkabout and I lose the originals, I can download the copies at full size by popping into any cyber-cafe, and take them to whatever authorities may be able to help with replacements.
I can also upload all the phone numbers I might need along the way, my travel itinerary, links to useful websites that I might otherwise forget and reviews of some of the places I might stay or visit so I don't have to cart loads of guide books and papers around with me.
I can do the same with my pictures - I don't want every picture I ever took up online, but some of the really good ones are worth re-naming and uploading with a description. I can then share these with home, and if my camera gets broken or I leave it somewhere stupid I'll still have the Nutshell copies to look back on.
It's easy to think you'll live forever when you're young.
But now we have a growing family, we realise it's vital to put our affairs in order; if one of us is taken ill, the other will know where everything is and what to do.
But my grandchildren have been interviewing me on their phones and on video, and now they've recorded my memories in a Nutshell - I can't wait to see it.
Lots of things are hard to talk about - at any age.
But now we've recorded our last wishes we can get on with enjoying retirement together, knowing that those left behind will have greater peace of mind.
